It was reported on Saturday in The National that the old firm are chasing the signature of West Ham United striker Zavon Hines after it was revealed that his future will lie away from Upton Park at the end of his current deal.

The 22-year old will be free to move clubs for a Fifa-determined "training compensation" payment. The exact cost to the Scottish clubs would depend on at which point a Fifa committee determined Hines to have "completed his training" at West Ham, which could result in a fee as low as £318,000.

There had been speculation earlier this month about a move to Championship side Burnley, that was subsequently blocked by the East London club, but were he to move to another club in England then West Ham would prefer a higher price than the one paid if he was to move to Scotland.

Hines was told by West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady, in a meeting on April 1, that his contract would not be renewed.
