West Ham's decision to trial former Milwall player Ben Thatcher led to a good number of jeers when he turned out the other day, and now Alan Curbishley is having a think about whether to sign him.

“I didn’t quite understand it,” he said.

“I don’t think George will be too far away so we’re looking for some experienced cover and we took the opportunity to give Ben half a game.

“Perhaps the fans don’t understand what the situation is. I’ll have to think about it.”

Welsh international he might be, but Curbs doesn't seem to understand that players come with baggage, and his is nastier and more violent than most.

Having played for a club's rivals never really helps either, so it's not hard to see why this one might not be the most popular signing for a manager everyone is tipping to leave.
