Obinna signed, now Hammers go on the defensive

West Ham United have finally clinched the signing of Inter Milan striker Victor Obinna on a loan deal with a view to a permanent move.

He is expected to sign after he completes his medical. West Ham have been after more firepower and believe they have now got their man.

They are now expected to search for cover in the defensive area and have launched a bid for Hamburg right-back Guy Demel.

On hearing of the Hammers' interest after being told he could leave the club, Demel told Kicker, "Of course it surprised and annoyed me when I was told from above that I could go,"

"I too am very unhappy with my last season, but there are reasons for this.

"I feel fresh in my mind, and I am physically well. I'm really hungry. I am now 29, have experience and finally the necessary fitness. I think this is now the best Demel of all time."
