Sunderland join race for Cole

According to today's Daily Mail, Sunderland have joined Stoke City and Liverpool in the race to sign West Ham United striker Carlton Cole.

West Ham have quoted Liverpool and Stoke an asking price of £15million but Stoke have recently cooled on their interest. However, now that striker Mamady Sidibe is out for the rest of the season with an injury suffered in the 2-1 defeat by Tottenham on Saturday, they could well renew their interest.

Cole had publicly announced to Sky Sports News last Thursday that he is fully committed to the Hammers, and will be staying for the long-term. But with a number of strikers on Avram Grant's radar it could be a case of 'watch this space' until 6pm on September 1st.
