Following reports in the Daily Mirror this morning that Scott Parker had signed a one year extension to his contract at West Ham United, The Metro believe Tottenham and Liverpool will make last-ditch attempts to sign him before he puts pen to paper next week.

Tottenham have already had a bid openly rejected by West Ham as co-owner David Sullivan issued a strongly worded statement on the club's website 2 weeks ago stating that the player was not for sale at any price.

However, with interest from White Hart Lane still rife, Liverpool boss Roy Hodgson, who is also interested in taking striker Carlton Cole from Upton Park, has also joined the race for The Hammers' star performer. Any bid from the Reds though is dependent on the cash they recieve from the potential sale of Javier Mascherano. This would allow Hodgson to bid up to £20million.

It is being suggested that any bids above £18million are likely to be given serious consideration by the West Ham board, who are looking to trim their £70million-a-year wage bill.
