Reports on ESPN Soccernet suggest that Mathew Upson seems likely to leave West Ham United after the World Cup concludes in July.

Upson has apparently rejected a new 3 year deal at Upton Park. Hammers' owner David Sullivan told the Daily Mail, "We keep hearing the agent may have done a deal with a bigger club. I can't say who but I wish they'd get on and make an offer. We've had offers from lesser clubs who he probably wouldn't go to. He probably fancies one last throw of the dice at a big club. I wish Matthew well."

It is not the first time Upson has been linked with a move away, as he was attracting interest from other Premier League clubs back in January last year. The speculation continued throughout the summer and during this January's transfer window.

Now with the ownership regime firmly in place, Upson has been considering his options especially as he has had his differences with the boardroom trio during his Birmingham City days.

Hammers' fans may fear such a move as they have seen the problems caused by the departure of James Collins last summer and the resulting lack of quality in the central defensive area.
