Reports claim that West Ham United could move for unsettled Stoke City striker James Beattie before the January transfer window closes on Monday.

Having missed out on Eidur Gudjohnsen, with the striker instead choosing to sign for London rivals Tottenham this morning, manager Gianfranco Zola could be lining up a bid to lure the former Southampton and Everton striker to Upton Park.

Zola is desperate to add forward options to his beleagured West Ham side and has earmarked Stoke’s James Beattie and Blackburn Rover’s Benni McCarthy as his two most likely options.

The deal to bring the South African International from Ewood Park to the Boleyn Ground is apparently close to completion.
