At least it was a decent match...

Some West Ham fans could be forgiven for yawning once or twice when watching their team these days. The team is constantly is crippled by injuries, and those that do turn out seem to be more interested in what they might be having for tea rather than playing some decent football.

Well, at least by today’s standards, they appear to have decided to have sausage and mash in advance, as, despite going down to a Kevin Davies goal at The Reebok , the team at least seemed to fire into life on one or two occasions.

Dean Ashton’s stunning overhead kick was tipped on to the bar by ‘keeper Ali Al Hamsi (watch it on Match of the Day, you just have to), and Scott Parker had a shot fumbled out for a corner late on.

But it took the Hammers 37 minutes to even muster a shot on goal. If you were considering a trip up north to watch the match but pulled out at the last minute, then you made the right decision.

Bolton, however, seemed hell-bent on getting out of this mess (something NOT predicted in the preview, so apologies for that) of relegation, and could have had a hatful more were it not for some dodgy offside calls and some goal-line clearances from Scott Parker.

Alan Curbishley must fear for his future at the club if results continue this way to the end of the season, especially as he continuously refuses to start Freddie Sears on a regular basis. His introduction midway through the second half was one of the bright sparks of the game, and although he could only be getting games thanks to injuries and the relative safety of mid-table, he surely deserves more than the odd cameo.

Still, at least the Hammers are playing Derby next week. Nothing like a certain three points to lift the spirits, eh?

West Ham: Green, Spector, Upson, Ferdinand (Pantsil 4), McCartney, Parker, Collison (Cole 50), Mullins, Ashton, Zamora (Sears 66), Boa Morte. Subs Not Used: Walker, Tomkins.

Booked: Pantsil.

Referee Rob Styles (Hampshire)
