West Ham United have finally completed the signing of out of contract former Villereal striker Guillermo Franco. The player had arrived at Upton Park for a medical last friday, and manager Gianfranco Zola said in his press conference ahead of the wigan match that he would be training with the squad the following week. The deal sees the striker sign a permanent contract after reports had suggested that he would be joining the club on a one year loan.

Franco is the first Mexican international to sign for the Hammers, and he has scored four times in his last six appearances for his country.

The player told "I am really happy to sign for West Ham. It was my dream to come to the Premier League and I am proud to play for a club that has so much history. This is a very important stage in my career and I hope to score lots of goals for the club this season and then play at the World Cup."

Franco began his career at CF Monterey, where he quickly made a name for himself after scoring 63 goals in 119 appearances, and winning the league medal in his first year. This earned him a high profile move to Villereal in 2006, where he performed well both domestically and in the Champions League.
