Summer rumours reported that the player, now deemed surplus to requirements at the Allianz Arena, was being watched by the Hammers as boss Gianfranco Zola considered a move for him- but his agent Jose Alberti is believed to have told Giallorossi fanzine Roma Giallo Rossa that ‘ it’s a situation that is 80% likely to be concluded successfully. At the moment there is no negotiation- only an interest on Roma’s part’.

He added that both the player and his club had been informed and that Roma were awaiting a response from Bayern, disclosing that his client was ‘very willing’ to return to Italy.
