Hammers boss Gianfranco Zola has confirmed that there has been mounting interest in James Collins. Aston Villa and Stoke City are believed to be fighting for his signature, but the Villans are being widely tipped to get their man with a £5 million bid before the transfer deadline this coming Tuesday.

The manager praised the Welshman’s performance in Saturday’s 0-0 draw at Blackburn, telling Sky Sports that he thought the player had been ‘ really good, to be honest’ and then disclosed that ‘ Villa have said they’re interested in him, so we’ll see what happens’.
