Hammers to go West?

West Ham could join the list of premier league clubs in American ownership reports eufootball.biz. Clark Hunt has emerged as a possible bidder for the club. Hunt is building his football portfolio and already controls FC Dallas and Colombus Crew.

The Sunday Times reported on 9 Aug that the Icelandic bank Straumur, which effectively owns West Ham through CB Holding is facing liquidation. Straumur’s website confirms that a meeting of creditors took place in Reykjavík last Thursday as part of the winding up process.

Against this precarious financial background perhaps it is not surprising that little has happened to bolster the lack of forward power. Even more worrying are reports of offers for Hammers’ new skipper Matthew Upson.

Should Straumur slip into bankruptcy this could present the Premier League with tricky issues over West Ham’s owners' ability to meet the fit and proper person’s test.
