Defender Lucas Neill is believed to be in talks with Sunderland over a free transfer move to the Stadium of Light after negotiations over a new deal at Upton Park broke down. Black Cats manager Steve Bruce has admitted that ‘we’ve had a little conversation to see where Lucas is at. He’s another player who’s experienced, he’s played in the Premier League and he’s on a free transfer so that’s the attraction’.

Neill has also been linked with a return to former club Blackburn and moves to Manchester City and Turkish side Galatasaray. He first arrived in England after a move to Millwall in 1995 before moving on to Ewood Park, spending six years there before his move to the Hammers.

Internationally he has represented his native Australia at every level from under 20 to the senior side and competed at the Sydney Olympics, the 2006 World Cup and 2007 Asian Cup with the Socceroos.
