You’ve got to love the world’s press and their image of the Premier League. It would seem they imagine anyone remotely associated with the top flight just sits around, eating money sandwiches, drinking crushed diamonds and generally farting around with cash.

And to back up this claim, we look at Italian website Sportevai.it, which is carrying a story on Emiliano Viviano, the goalkeeper from Brescia.

It looks at the promising career of this gentleman, who they dub “the best goalkeeper of the next generation.”

AC Milan have been credited with an interest for months, and Fiorentina have apparently been hovering around too.

Strapped

But wait! It turns out AC Milan have no money thanks to not qualifying for the Champion’s League!

Apparently, thanks to missing out on Europe’s premier club competition (after the FA Cup, of course) the Rossineri is taking a more ‘softly, softly’ approach.

This includes the ‘low cost’ signings of Gianluca Zambrotta from Real Madrid and Mathieu Flamini from Arsenal (who was rumoured to be upset at the pay structure of one of the richest European clubs).

But around £10 mill for a goalkeeper? No thanks, say AC (who are also in for Emmanuel Adebayor, at £25 million).

Thankfully, the EPL comes to the rescue with bags and bags of cold hard moolah. Both Tottenham and West Ham are tipped as likely destinations for the man last year’s Champion’s League winners can’t afford.

Let’s just pray the rest of the world doesn’t find out the Hammers are trying to trim the wage bill at the moment…it would throw their belief we have houses made of pure gold, fashioned by blind Tibetan monks, right out of the window.
