West Ham technical director Gianluca Nani will fly to Italy this week as the club look to finally secure the signature of Inter Milan's Brazilian star Mancini.

The 28-year-old centre forward is still top of Gianfranco Zola's targets as pre-season training began earlier this week. The Italian is hoping that his fellow countryman Nani will finally persuade Mancini to agree terms at Upton Park. It is hoped that the transfer of Luis Jiminez will help persuade the striker to come to East London.

The Hammers have plenty of other options if the deal with Inter is scuppered. A striker is seen as an essential position for West Ham, due to the departure of David Di Michele, with Eidur Gudjohnsen a consideration if he was willing to take a pay cut from European Champions Barcelona.

But it seems that Mancini fits Zola's style of play that he is looking to continue in the forthcoming Premier League season.
