The ink is only just dry on the takeover deal to supposedly secure West Ham's immediate future and already it seesm that things may yet get worse before they get better.

In short the club will be doing well simply to stand still in the immediate future. Talk of signining players like Chilean striker Luis Jimenez seems somewhat pie-in-the-sky unless one or two can be off-loaded for decent money. Article continues below

England stars Matthew Upson and Rob Green are still the most likely to be heading out of the door, their heads potentially turned by greater money and job security elsewhere.

It would be difficult to argue against them in the present climate.

The tangled Icelandic banking web which has brought Hammers to their knees has a few more months before it will be unravelled yet.

The new season is just over two months away and the fixtures will be out this time next week.
