After the disappointment of losing 2-0 in their Premier League opener at home to Newcastle United on Saturday, West Ham United have the chance to make amends when Charlton Athletic arrive in Stratford for a London derby in a Carabao Cup Southern Section third round tie tonight.

Last season, Manuel Pellegrini's Hammers made it past this stage by beating Sky Bet League Two outfit Newport County 2-0 before suffering a shock 4-0 defeat to Sky Bet League One side Oxford United in round three.

On a positive note, if they were to make it past Lee Bowyer's men, they will face another home tie against the winners of Wednesday's encounter between Leeds United and Hull City next week.

Whilst the home side are thought to be favourites to claim victory here, the Addicks not only have momentum behind them but have also had more time to prepare, having been involved in one of Saturday's 3pm matches and coming into this game off the back of a 2-0 win at Crewe Alexandra.

The South Londoners booked their place in this round  by beating fellow Sky Bet League One side Swindon Town 3-1 in the first round.

David Moyes is set to name a much changed side from the one that faced the Magpies three days ago with either Darren Randolph or David Martin replacing Łukasz Fabiański in goal, while the Irons' boss is also set to include names such as Fabián Balbuena, Ben Johnson, Arthur Masuaku, Manuel Lanzini, Felipe Anderson, Robert Snodgrass, Jack Wilshire and Josh Cullen in his starting line-up. Sébastien Haller and Andriy Yarmolenko may have to settle for a place amongst the substitutes.

Fans interested in watching this match will be able to do so via the Carabao Cup official website and purchasing a £10 match pass. Kick-off is at 7:30pm and the referee is Andre Marriner.
