December has been a busy month for all of the Premier League clubs but so far for West Ham United, it has proved a far from successful one. They will be hoping to change that when they head to St Mary's to face Southampton in Saturday's late kick-off, looking to atone for that unsatisfactory second-half performance against Arsenal on Monday night.

The Hammers head to Hampshire sixteenth in the current top-flight table and will be determined not to let the Saints leapfrog them going into the hectic festive period.

Ralph Hasenhüttl's side have been in good recent form and until 30 November hadn't won a home game this season, so it might now be a trickier test for Manuel Pellegrini's team than perhaps it would have been a month ago.

Both teams however go into this game looking for a reaction after the Saints also let an advantage slip in their game at Newcastle United last Sunday as they lost 2-1.

The visitors will be chasing a second straight win at St Mary's as they won 2-1 here last campaign on their way to doing the double over the South Coast side.

Aaron Cresswell was substituted just five minutes after the restart on Monday with a minor injury but has made a speedy recovery and should be back in contention for the trip down south. Winston Reid returned to first-team training at the start of the week and he may well be in contention to make his first appearance since March 2018.

Andriy Yarmolenko wasn't even on the bench for the visit of the Gunners five days ago. However, if he is included here, he will be hoping to provide a welcome boost to the out of form East London club.

Saturday's match is a 5:30pm kick-off and for the third game in succession, television coverage will be available. As it was on Monday night, the encounter is to be screened by Sky Sports with build-up beginning at 5pm. The referee is Martin Atkinson.
