Although the Premier League transfer window closed on August 8, deadline day around Europe is today and earlier West Ham United confirmed that striker Javier Hernández has secured a transfer to Spain and joined La Liga outfit Sevilla for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £8m.

With the departures of Andy Carroll, Marko Arnautovic and Lucas Pérez at the end of last season, Hammers' boss Manuel Pellegrini moved quickly to bolster his attacking options this summer, bringing in Frenchman Sébastien Haller early on and then following that deal up with the capture of FC Basel's Albian Ajeti on deadline day.

It came as a surprise to many West Ham fans that a move away wasn't secured before the season started, given his reported high salary and lack of regular appearances.

The former Manchester United player was brought to the club by former Irons' manager Slaven Bilic in the summer of 2017 and made 63 appearances during a two-year spell in East London, scoring seventeen goals. The last of these came in the 1-1 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion at the American Express Community Stadium on 17 August, where he opened the scoring.

Hernández isn't the only face to have moved abroad, as the club made it public over the weekend that Development Squad player Kristijan Belic completed a switch to Greek side Olympiacos, having failed to make a first-team appearance and spending several loan periods away from Stratford.
