It was confirmed late on Wednesday that Pedro Obiang had left West Ham United to join Italian Serie A outfit U.S. Sassuolo for an undisclosed fee believed to be £8.1m.

The Spaniard was linked with a return to Italy last summer with former club Sampdoria reported to be close to re-signing the midfielder who had joined the Hammers just a day before Slaven Bilic was appointed in the summer of 2015. However, the move broke down when personal terms weren't agreed.

Obiang only scored three goals in 116 appearances during his four years in East London but his final strike was one that the fans will always remember, a 30-yard rocket which opened the scoring in the 1-1 draw against fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in January 2018. That effort was the winner of the club's Goal of the Season award at the end of a campaign that saw them finish well clear of relegation.

There could be more players moving in and out of Stratford before the window closes on 8 August and as soon as deals are confirmed, this site will keep its readers up to date.
