It was confirmed earlier this morning that Marko Arnautovic's long and protracted move to Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG has finally been completed for a fee of £22.4m after the Austrian passed his medical on Friday.

Arnautovic eventually spent two full seasons in East London despite expressing his desire to leave back in January but Hammers' boss Manuel Pellegrini was reluctant to lose such a key player.

The Austrian frontman then appeared to have a change of heart and signed an extension to his deal but he still obviously wasn't happy about being denied the move. This clearly showed in his performances from that point on.

It then became apparent last Tuesday that the former Stoke City player had handed in a formal transfer request after the Chinese outfit had made another bid which was swiftly rejected by the Irons.

The ongoing situation was allegedly affecting team morale and it was reported by Sky Sports News two days later
that Pellegrini, together with his backroom staff and players had apparently said that they
wanted him out, leaving the club with no choice but to grant the Austrians' wishes and let him go.

In my opinion, there is no point keeping an unhappy player no matter how important he is to the team, despite him scoring a total of 22 goals in 65 appearances, which included three in his last two games as West Ham secured a tenth place finish last season.
