West Ham United have today smashed their transfer record for the second time in just under a year by announcing the arrival of Spanish international midfielder Pablo Fornals from La Liga side Villarreal on a five-year deal with the option to extend for a further twelve months.

News of this move was first reported by Sky Sports News on Tuesday but it was thought that the transfer might have hit a stumbling block, as Villarreal were asking the Hammers to increase their offer to £31m after they had originally tabled a £25m bid.

Fornals becomes the club's third summer signing after the arrivals of goalkeepers Roberto Jiménez Gago and David Martin.

The 23-year-old will officially join up with his new teammates after representing Spain at the UEFA European under 21 Championships and will either make his debut in the Premier League Asia Trophy in July, or the betway Cup match against Athletic Club Bilbao in East London on 3 August.
