West Ham United confirmed on Friday that goalkeeper Roberto Jiménez Gago will become the club's first signing of the summer and the 33-year-old Spaniard is due to arrive in Stratford on 1 July on a free transfer from RCD Espanyol.

The 33-year-old will provide competition for current first-choice Lukasz Fabianski in East London and the Spaniard will also be joined by David Martin, following the club's decision to release former Real Betis goalkeeper Adrián after six years with the Hammers.

The "fans favourite" will be released at the end of June, along with striker Andy Carroll and midfielder Samir Nasri.

The first summer recruit, more commonly known as Roberto, has put pen to paper on a two-year deal with the option to extend for a further twelve months.

Whilst he has spent most of his career in his native country, he has also enjoyed spells in both Portugal and Greece. The former Atletico Madrid and Olympiakos stopper has won six trophies including the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, as well as various domestic honours.

Manuel Pellegrini has also moved to bolster his goalkeeping ranks further by the signing of Martin, whose transfer was only finalised today from fierce rivals Millwall.

Like Roberto, Martin is 33 and has also signed a two-year deal with an option to extend his contract to three.

The son of former West Ham legend Alvin started his career with Wimbledon and stayed with the club when they were re-formed after their controversial move to Milton Keynes, before joining up with the Lions back in September 2017.

Now he is looking forward to having a successful spell at his boyhood club and everyone connected with the Irons of course wishes both players well.

It's been a busy day at the club today after it was confirmed earlier this afternoon that another player has left the club. Midfielder Edimilson Fernandes has made the switch to Germany and joined FSV Mainz for an undisclosed fee.

The Swiss international spent three years as a Hammer after being brought to the club by Slaven Bilic but was sent out on a season-long loan to Italian Serie A outfit Fiorentina by Pellegrini in August.

There haven't been many released from Stratford so far this summer but one player that has left the Hammers is forward Lucas Pérez.

The Spanish international has signed a permanent deal with La Liga side Deportivo Alavés after just one season in East London.

Whilst with the Irons, he scored six goals including two on his first appearance for the club in the 3-1 home victory over Cardiff City on 4 December.

The club also released youngsters Vashon Neufville, Moses Makasi, Antonio Martinez and Noha Sylvestre in June.

More news about further comings and goings from East London will be announced as soon as they become known.
