With Sam Byram departing for a loan spell at Nottingham Forest last week, West Ham United have seen another player leave East London on a temporary basis today, as midfielder Edimilson Fernandes has joined Italian outfit Fiorentina for the season with a view to a permanent move.

It was thought that Fernandes would leave Stratford on deadline day if the Hammers managed to push through a deal for Carlos Sánchez which was confirmed minutes before the window closed but it has taken the Italians time to complete the Swiss International's deal.

West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini stated in his pre-match news conference on Friday ahead of their season opener at Anfield that Fernandes was unlikely to be in the squad for the match which ended in a 4-0 defeat for the visitors.
