In an interview with Sky Sports News last Tuesday evening, West Ham United joint chairman David Gold stated that he hoped manager David Moyes would stay in East London after picking up 33 of their 42 points to help the club retain its Premier League status.

The next day however, it was decided that the Scotsman's contract would not be extended and Gold, along with David Sullivan have now turned to the former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini to succeed Moyes, with the Chilean signing a three-year deal.

Pellegrini returns to England after leaving the Citizens at the end of the 2015/16 season, following early confirmation that he would be replaced with former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager Josep Guardiola.

Pellegrini will I'm sure look forward to seeing who he faces in his first game in charge of the Hammers when the fixtures are released on June 14. For now though, with the summer transfer window having opened last week, his first task is to mould his own squad ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
