After beginning the last three seasons with London derbies, West Ham United face a trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United this afternoon, as they kick-off with three consecutive away games.

After ending the last campaign on a winning note, the visitors will not want to start the new season as they did this time last year. A defeat at Chelsea meant they didn't make the best of starts as the club looked ahead to a new chapter in their history.

Despite plenty of speculation throughout last term that manager Slaven Bilic would be replaced, he remains in charge and has spent considerable money on bringing quality into the squad over the summer.

Although their pre-season schedule only saw the Irons pick up a solitary win from six outings, they are in good shape and desperate to build on last terms 11th place finish.

José Mourinho's side have also brought in some standout players during the close season, the pick of the bunch being Everton's Romelu Lukaku.

They will be wanting to bounce back however from defeat on Tuesday night after they missed out on the UEFA Super Cup, losing 2-1 to Real Madrid.

The two teams met three times last season and in the league meeting here, Bilic's men came away with what in the end was a hard fought point in a 1-1 draw despite going ahead inside the first two minutes.

New signings Joe Hart, Pablo Zabaleta and Marko Arnautovic will be in line to make their debuts, while Javier Hernandez is fit enough to face his former club after arriving in East London from Bayer Leverkusen. Youngster Sead Haksabanovic may also feature following his arrival on Monday.

Michail Antonio is still recovering from a hamstring injury and will miss this game but should return for Saturday's trip to Southampton. Manuel Lanzini will not be involved either, as he recovers from an injury picked up in the pre-season victory over Fulham in Austria.

Captain Mark Noble is in line to make a return to the side after missing the last two games of last season and some of the friendly matches, due to a minor injury. However, Cheikhou Kouyaté will definitely be absent after he picked up an injury in the pre-season draw with Sturm Graz.

The match is a 4pm kick-off with live coverage being screened by Sky Sports from 3:30pm. The referee is Martin Atkinson.
