West Ham United seemed to be one of the quieter clubs in terms of transfer activity on deadline day but despite little speculation about this deal, manager Slaven Bilic has brought in his twelth signing, as 33-year-old right-back Alvaro Arbeloa has joined on a free transfer signing a one-year contract at the Olympic Stadium.

A busy summer in Stratford was due to end earlier this month, but due to the vast number of injuries sustained by the Hammers, they have added three more players in the last six days.

The former Real Madrid player was capped by his country 56 times during a glittering career, which has seen him win the World Cup, the European Championship (twice), the La Liga title, the Spanish cup both in 2011 and 2014, the UEFA Champions League, the Fifa world club cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

Bilic was interested in the former Spanish International and World Cup winner last summer but a deal to bring him to Upton Park collapsed.

Arbeloa has been brought in as cover for Sam Byram and is likely to be one of a host of debutants when Watford arrive in Stratford as Premier League action recommences on 10 September.

In other transfer news, it was thought that striker Enner Valencia was finalising a season-long loan deal with Swansea City. However developments throughout the day meant that he has now joined Everton on a similar deal with a option to make the move permanent for £14.5m next summer.

West Ham once again have a plethora of strikers to choose from in Stratford, following the arrivals of both Simone Zaza and Jonathan Calleri. They, together with the return to fitness of Andy Carroll and Andre Ayew, should be enough to boost the Hammers' goal tally this season.

Meanwhile, youngsters Doneil Henry and Luka Belic have also left on loan with the former Toronto player joining Danish Superliga side AC Horsens for the season, while Belic has agreed a five-month switch to Scottish Premiership outfit Motherwell after playing just six times for the West Ham development squad since arriving last summer.

Finally, West Ham have released 21-year-old former Charlton Athletic midfielder Diego Poyet.

After signing for the club during the summer of 2014 when the Hammers were under the stewardship of Sam Allardyce, he made ten appearances while in East London before having a second spell at The Valley, sandwiched in between a stint with MK Dons
