After missing out on the capture of Inter Milan defender Davide Santon last week, things now appear to be looking up for Slaven Bilic and West Ham United and it was confirmed earlier today that a season-long loan deal for 22-year-old Argentine striker Jonathan Calleri has been agreed subject to the player being granted a work permit.

News of this deal first came about before the Hammers flew to Slovenia to take on NK Domzale in their UEFA Europa League third qualifying round tie and with 20 days of the summer transfer window left, he has followed up the signing of Arthur Masuaku and Andre Ayew by securing another of his targets.

Calleri first came to West Ham's attention after it was reported that Diafra Sakho had asked for a move away from the club as he wanted more first-team football, but a replacement needed to be found before the Senegalese front man could move on.

Sakho is still with the Irons however, as he failed a medical at West Bromwich Albion.

West Ham's latest signing only joined his parent club in January but has been a prolific goalscorer throughout his career, including 21 goals in 53 appearances during 18 months at Boca Juniors which ended with him helping the club secure the league and cup double late last year.

Calleri will not feature against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday as he has just ended his time with the Argentinian Olympic squad in Brazil, but is set to link up with his new teammates next week in time for the opening league game at the Olympic Stadium on August 21 against AFC Bournemouth.
