West Ham United have confirmed today that Republic of Ireland defender Joey O'Brien will be among six players who won't be following them to the Olympic Stadium next season.

O'Brien made 125 appearances for the Hammers, despite continuing to be plagued by injury as he had done throughout his career.

The right-back was signed in the summer of 2011, when the club had just been relegated to the nPower Championship and it was left to former manager Sam Allardyce to build a team which was capable of achieving an immediate return to the Barclays Premier League. Whilst the East Londoners were in the top two for most of the campaign, they eventually achieved their aim in the play-off final at Wembley, where they beat Blackpool 2-1.

Joey leaves East London, having scored three goals during five years at West Ham.

It will be a busy summer for the club, in terms of ins and outs as the move to Stratford draws ever closer, but they have also released five other players as Elliot Lee, Leo Chambers, Amos Nasha, Jordan Brown and Nathan Mavila will also be released after their contracts expire on 30 June.

Co-owner David Sullivan stated in an interview with West Ham TV last month that no "key" first-team players will leave this summer and that money will be available for Slaven Bilic to strengthen the squad as the club look for more improvement on a great final season at Upton Park as a new dawn lies ahead.

Exciting times are expected for the Irons when they kick-off their season with the two legged UEFA Europa League third qualifying round tie on 28 July and with the Premier League fixtures to be announced next Wednesday as well as news of more new signings to follow, this site will as always keep you Hammers' fans up-to-date.
