With twelve days left in the January transfer window, West Ham United have finally made their first acquisition, as they have sealed a deal to bring in defender Sam Byram from Sky Bet Championship side Leeds United for an undisclosed fee on a four and a half year deal.

It had looked for much of the month like the player was likely to join Everton but once talk of West Ham's interest was rife, the 22-year-old, who was born in Essex felt he only had one option.

In a live interview with Sky Sports News yesterday, Hammers' co-owner David Sullivan admitted that the club tried to sign Byram last summer when he was out of contract with Leeds but he has now got his man.

Manager Slaven Bilic had already released former club captain Kevin Nolan, along with Modibo Maiga back in the summer and following the departure of attacking midfielder Morgan Amalfitano in October, the Croatian does not expect any more players to leave Upton Park before the window closes.

Of course if any further developments happen on the transfer front, this site will keep its readers up to date.
