The last-gasp equaliser for Manchester United on Sunday must have been a disappointment for West Ham United, given that they were ahead for so long in the game but at least they put on an excellent performance. If they don't pick up a result against Southampton at St Mary's tonight, it will mean that the weekend's hard work will have counted for nothing.

West Ham's home game with the Red Devils was selected for live television coverage meaning it was put back a day, so the Saints will be the fresher of the two sides going into the game having picked up a victory away at Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.

The two sides are on good form but Ronald Koeman's team suffered only their third home defeat of the season to Swansea City on 1 February, whereas the day before saw the Hammers continue their dreadful run at Anfield, losing 2-0.

At the start of the campaign, the Hammers struggled at home which included a 3-1 defeat by Saints in the reverse fixture in August, so they will want their revenge and will hope that they can secure their second win of 2015.

Sam Allardyce stated in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday morning that Andy Carroll has a chance of returning to the side for this game, while Kevin Nolan suffered a bruised instep against the Red Devils and may miss out. If he does, then vice-captain Mark Noble will take the armband, while Morgan Amalfitano may start in midfield.

James Tomkins and Cheikou Kouyate should remain in the side despite both sustaining injuries at the weekend.

Joey O'Brien, Matt Jarvis and Carlton Cole are also in contention to start.

Tonight's match is a 7:45pm kick-off and the referee is Craig Pawson.
