On Tuesday night, it was widely speculated that West Ham United's proposed deal for Diafra Sakho seemed to be dead in the water but in his news conference yesterday, manager Sam Allardyce seemed to suggest that the transfer might be revived and later in the evening whufc.com confirmed the news that the striker had signed from FC Metz on a four-year contract.

The Senegalese international who has spent his entire career with Metz to date has become the club's seventh signing of the summer.

Allardyce now has a plethora of strikers at the club, as he looks to employ a new attacking style of play in the coming season which starts on Saturday with the London derby against fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Upton Park.

It is as yet unknown whether Sakho will be in consideration for the season opener, given that the move has just been confirmed however, in future matches he may be given the chance to fill the void left by the injured Andy Carroll.

Speaking to West Ham TV the player said "This is a proud day to have signed for West Ham, I really love English football and I've dreamed of coming to play for one of the big English clubs. Today, West Ham have given me that opportunity and I didn't hesitate to grab it.

"I'm looking forward to playing. It's more than a month now that I've been training for this and right now I think I'd be ready to pull on the Club colours.

"I've come here to continue as I was at Metz. I'm going to give it my all, going flat out on the pitch and I think the fans will appreciate that."
