After completing the signings of both Aaron Cresswell and Diego Poyet in the last couple of weeks, Sam Allardyce hinted that West Ham United were in advanced talks with Ecuadorian striker Enner Valencia, following Saturday's 2-2 draw at Stevenage. After completing a medical, Valencia has now signed for a fee believed to be in the region of £12m.

The frontman joins Mauro Zarate and Cheikou Kouyate and thus becomes the club's fifth signing of the summer.

Although his country were knocked out in the group stages of the World Cup, Valencia was heavily involved in Ecuador's campaign, scoring all three of their goals in Brazil. He was also a prolific goalscorer during his time playing for Pachuca in Mexico, where he netted 18 goals in 23 appearances.

Valencia has signed a five-year deal at Upton Park and in his post-match interview with Sky Sports, following the goalless draw with Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Wednesday night, assistant manager Neil McDonald confirmed that the striker is currently back in Ecuador waiting for his work permit to be approved.
