Jose Mourinho might have done a lot of good / bad things for English football (depending on which team you support) but at least his advice to Gianfranco Zola appears to be sound.

The Portuguese manager recommended Steve Clarke as assistant manager to new manager Gianfranco Zola after the Italian was unveiled last week to the Hammers' fans, but compensation issues are getting in the way.

£5 million

It's reported West Ham might have to pay up to £5 million to get their man shoudl the battle for compensation make it to court, but it seems a figure of aroun £1 million seems more likely.

If you believe some sources, the Upton Park outfit are looking to pay just £600,000 to secure the services of a man who has spent many faithful years at Chelsea, seeing a large number of managers come and go.

And losing the shirt sponsors halfway through a multi-million pound deal hasn't helped things either, so there's not a lot of room for manouevre...but hey, when has there ever been down at the Boleyn?
