West Ham's hopes of signing Ghanain Stephen Appiah have been dealt a huge blow after it was confirmed Arsenal, Portsmouth and a top European club have been tracking the player too.

He played for Ghana against Libya last night in a game that proved he was no longer injured, so Harry Redknapp's comments about the player don't nseem to hold water any more.

West Ham have been after the player for a while, according to the media, but the interest from Arsenal has reportedly turned the players head too far in the opposite direction (not literally).

After having no left-backs, West Ham now have two...and the midfield is surely well enough stocked, should Parker stay fit.

So is Appiah even needed?
