The draw for the third round of the FA Cup was made earlier today and West Ham United will make the trip to face nPower Championship side Nottingham Forest on the weekend of the 4th/5th January.

The Hammers have faced Forest in some memorable encounters before. Sam Allardyce's side did the double over them in the 2011/12 season scoring six goals, while only conceding two. They have also played them in this competition in previous years as well, with the Irons coming out on top in a fourth-round home tie in the 2010/11 campaign under the stewardship of Avram Grant. The Hammers went on to reach the sixth-round that season but were finally knocked out by fellow Premier League outfit Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.

In recent campaigns West Ham have been knocked out at the third-round stage. In the 2011/12 campaign it was nPower League One side Sheffield Wednesday who forced the Hammers into an early exit, whereas last season West Ham welcomed fellow Premier League side Manchester United to East London. The home side battled back from a goal down to lead Sir Alex Ferguson's men 2-1 only to see Robin van Persie grab a stoppage time equaliser and take the tie to a replay, which the Hammers lost 1-0 thanks to an early Wayne Rooney goal.

Here's hoping they can have a better run this year to make up for their disappointing League form to date.
