Andy Carroll's transfer from Liverpool has taken some time to complete, much like the initial loan deal, but finally he has been announced as a permanent member of the West Ham United squad, having signed a six-year deal with the option for a further two years for an undisclosed fee. He will join up with his new teammates when the window opens on 1 July.

Sam Allardyce has reiterated his desire to sign the former Newcastle United striker permanently on a number of occasions last season but at one stage was unsure whether a deal could be done due to the new financial fair play rules.

Carroll will wear the number 9 shirt, which is familiar to him as he wore the same number during his time at both St James's Park and Anfield. He is looking forward to concentrating solely on life in East London, telling, "It's fantastic for me to be here. I really enjoyed last season, and that shows in me coming back and making it permanent.

"The fans, the lads and the Club itself has been great to me, and what I wanted to do was come back and play football.

"Since the end of the season I've had a lot of time to think, I've missed it and that's why I'm back. Getting promoted the season before last, then finishing where we did - we did great, and it can only get better for us.

"The way the Club's being run, obviously getting the new stadium and everything like that, it's only going up."

Sky Sports News reported on Tuesday evening that Carroll's medical was to take place today but David Gold later confirmed via his Twitter account that the medical was to be brought forward and that the club had finally completed the capture of the striker.

Completing the deal from Liverpool means that Carroll becomes the club's third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Romanian defender Rasvan Rat and Spanish goalkeeper Adrian.
