After seeing Callum McNaughton leave for AFC Wimbledon on a permanent basis last Friday,it was reported on Monday that West Ham United were interested in FC Dallas defender George John. It has now been confirmed that the player has completed a two-month loan deal until the 5th March with a view to a permanent transfer. The American is unlikely to play in Saturday's match.

Hammers boss' Sam Allardyce said from the outset that his top priority this transfer window was a striker but had hinted that a wide player could also be useful as he looks to boost his defensive options.

In his pre-match press conference ahead of the trip to Portsmouth this weekend, the manager said that the deal for the 24-year-old was almost done, but after that he didn't know who would be next through the door at Upton Park. He also said that no clubs have contacted either him, nor the co-owners with offers for any player.

One thing is for certain, Huddersfield's Jordan Rhodes will not be following John to East London after Allardyce has given up pursuing the striker.
