With the January transfer window now open, it appears that Sam Allardyce has been promised considerable funds to strengthen his squad at West Ham United.

A striker is Big Sam's priority, but tonights London Evening Standard reports that Frederic Piquionne may be on his way out of Upton Park. Celtic have joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in the race to sign the French striker brought to East London by former manager Avram Grant, who he also worked under during his time at Portsmouth.

Piquionne was left out of the starting line-up for Monday's 1-0 npower Championship victory over Coventry City as Carlton Cole was restored to the side instead.

The report also claims that John Carew, who Allardyce brought in on a free transfer from Stoke city in the summer, could also be on his way out of the club as he has failed to cement a regular first-team place.

Allardyce, who is said to be looking at Doncaster's Billy Sharp, thinks that the team aren't getting enough goals given the chances they are creating.

He said, "We're looking at the striker position because we had 22 attempts at goal against Coventry and scored one goal, 19 against Derby and scored one, 19 again against Barnsley - scored one. That conversion rate is not good enough."
