Danny Welbeck has been drafted into the England squad.

The first call up for the Sunderland striker is just desserts for the young man who has done very well whilst partnering Ghana's Gyan.

Welbeck has had a fine season on loan at Sunderland, and Steve Bruce will be loath to see him return to Manchester United at the end of the season.

The game is fast becoming a Sunderland affair as the club is represented on both sides of the pitch, But the emphasis is on Ghana where they have Gyan, Mensah and Muntari.

An interesting side note is that all three had been trying to get Danny Welbeck to consider playing for Ghana.

Regardless of that, many on Wearside are hoping Ghana do well against an England set up who in general continue to ignore Sunderland players, Cappello allegedly refusing to travel to the Stadium of Light. Darren Bent certainly felt he was being ignored and had to move to Villa to get regular England starts.
