Adkins To Make Changes To Saints Line Up This Weekend.

In an interview with Saints manager Nigel Adkins I think it is very clear he feels rotation and changes will be needed this season, starting this weekend at Leicester.Hammond, Lallana and Connolly he says we all taken off against Millwall as they had virtually run themselves into the ground in the previous match and a half. He said in not so many words that this proves in this game that 11 ....

Many Left Back At Southampton Fc!

The arrival of Danny Fox was hailed by many and for sure I and many others thought perhaps this would be a replacement for Harding not a cover. But it seems not so. Harding just put pen to paper on a new deal seeing him remain as a Saint until 2014. Nigel Adkins has publicly acclaimed this as a superb deal for the club as Harding has been so outstanding. So why the Fox? Article ....

Nigel Adkins - The New Lawrie Mac Or Ted Bates?

Indeed many will say it is far too early to be discussing such a thing and in fact I would agree with that in most regards as he has been here only a year. But in fact we should already be able to make a judgment on this one way or another based on his record so far and moreover on the fact that like big Mac and Ted he joined at a time when Saints were low and had to build them back up to be ....

Saints Are Already So Close To Sealing A Play Off Spot.

I have been Statto for the last few hours, trying to work out what benefit this great start could be to us and boy-o-boy are you gonna love this.I believe I am right in saying last season in League One Nigel Adkins ended up with a point per game record of around 2.1. Of course we all know that at around this rate one is going to exceed 90 points for the season and assured automatic promotion. But ....

Aside From Saints Imperious Victory, What Else Happened Last Night?

I think there will be many reports of the game last night that will say much the same, so I am not so sure I have anything to add to it. How does one add to the accolades already given? How obvious is it that right now we are a class apart. That said I do like to keep an eye on other results and scores/scorers of interest and then give my five pennies worth of opinion on goings on. And there are ....

A Near On Full Npc Program Sees Top Two Saints And Cardiff Face Stern Tests.

And so the season unfolds with early leaders Cardiff and Saints neck and neck on every statistic as they go into game three and their biggest tests yet.A near on full NPC program of matches on Tuesday and Wednesday night sees Saints take a trip to Ipswich and Cardiff welcoming the other newly promoted side Brighton who have also won both their opening games. Tough games for both, and surely their ....

If Connolly Can Stay Fit, Saints Can Get Into The Play Offs.

Another match winning goal and performance from our often injured talisman, who has been daubed with bad luck over his years with Saints.None of us truly knew what to expect from Saints in this first season back in the NPC. Many of us would be happy with mid table and indeed this seems to be the level that most of us have been expecting. But, whilst I know 2 games is nothing to get excited about, ....

A Saints Win At Barnsley Will Signal True Intent.

As we have all been witness to, over the last few seasons, if not decades, Saints have an awful habit of following up a good win with drab away display against all the odds. Today’s trip to Barnsley is just one such game. Many people have the Yorkshire team down as one of the favourites to be among the relegation mix come end of the season and with that in mind this is just one of those ....

Will Alex Oxlade-chamberlain Be Another Pennant Or Rooney?

The super sale of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain by Saints to Arsenal yesterday will raise some eyebrows I am sure. With a fee of that size on the 17 year old shoulders is he set to crumble or go on to be a true superstar.Very hard to tell and I for one am very shocked Wenger bought yet another risky untested teenager when what he really needs are old pro’s who can kick in right away to win his ....

Saints Fans To Soft On Cortese Or Too Hard On Lowe?

The sale of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain brings up a very pertinent subject in regards to how fans view club Chairman/CEO’s. I see Cortese being lauded all around me for the sale of AOC and rightly so as I have to agree the deal seems very much in our favour. So this is not a criticism but merely a very valid subject matter for debate. Why was Lowe castigated so much when he sold off our young ....

Competition For Places In Saints Starting Xi Is Driving Success.

Take a look at who was on the bench for Saints on Saturday at home to Leeds and then take another look at those who did not even make it to the bench and it all becomes quite clear just how strong our squad is. As I wrote in my post match views, many of us would not have started with Hammond who showed us that he is worthy and then some.On the bench were Chaplow, Schneiderlin, De Ridder, ....

Nigel Is King With His Team Selection As Saints Dismantle Leeds.

Many, including me I must admit, had doubts over whether or not Dean Hammond would have any place in this years first XI, especially with the arrival of Jack Cork. Most of us had down Morgan and Chaplow to start before him, but it seems once again a case of good job we are none of us the managers.Nige got his line up and substitutions spot on this weekend, each player looking really up for it, ....

Connolly To Be Saints Ace In The Hole To Win Our First Opener Since 1988.

Yes it really has been that long. August 1988 at home to West Ham was the last time a Saints team won their opening home game of a season’s campaign. It has become almost the norm and thus totally acceptable, but I think not this season. And why should it be?Leeds are not going to be any slouches themselves this season although in many respects I have a feeling their squad right now may not ....

Saints Already Have The Basis Of A Premier League Side.

Reading through the new squad list and numbers I can pick out quite a decent spine and basis for a team I think would just about hold their own in the PL. Of course a lot of this is down to supposition and opinion (rose coloured specs even), but if you stand back and look at it, the likely hood is there is perhaps nearly enough there already. The supposition is clear, we have not ever seen this ....

2011 The Year Saint Cortese Proved The Media Know Nothing!

Rumour upon rumour. Unsubstantiated nonsense a plenty. Inaccurate claims everywhere. So far as the media’s reputation on stories relating to SFC goes anyway. So many players were linked to the club, having medicals, had been offered for, but like UFO sightings, never a single shred of evidence, just anecdote. It seems our ‘Rookie’ chairman learns fast in regards to the UK press ....

Jack Cork Signals Saints Intentions To Move Onwards And Upwards.

Many will disagree and many will be negative about something in the background I am sure, but for me the signing of Jack Cork is quite a coup. Not only was he a registered Chelsea player, which is good in itself, but he is also an England U21 player who I am sure could have got a look in at a lower half PL team.He shows a lot of promise, Burnley fans are gutted at losing him. Forest, Blackpool ....

Why Cortese Should Maybe Spend Big This Close Season At Saints.

If we do have big money to spend but simply do not think it prudent, I wonder if NC will reconsider after the fairly recent announcements about the FL rules changing next season in terms of clubs overspending. This will be Saints last chance in the FL to use their ‘claimed’ big bucks to assure themselves of a quick return to the PL. If they fail next season then they will have to ....

Gobern Leaving Points Towards New Signings At Saints.

Think about it, last season although he did not appear much he was very much becoming a fringe player and one we needed a lot at times. In fact we needed him so much, that when we lost the use of him we had to bring in cover. Hence his departure to Huddersfield has me convinced that NC and NA must be looking to bring in new faces. The logic is, that if last season in League One, our management ....

Why I Believe Arsenal Do Not Want Rising Saints Star Oxlade-chamberlain.

It was a great many years ago now that Rupert Lowe went to inspect and tour the Arsenal training facilities and set up, a trip which for some odd reason lead to the departure of one of our greatest prospects in the last few decades. Since then a few other academy products have flown the nest also, but none as big as Theo. That is until now, potentially. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, a name that I think ....

Cork Is The Top For Saints

Reports I see overnight here suggest that Jack Cork is SMS bound. But of course we get told this sort of thing many times over the course of close season. But there are a few reasons why I think this maybe true.Firstly, as all Saints fans know Jack spent some time on loan here a few seasons back when we were again in the Championship. He did quite well from what I recollect but was played in ....

Saints Bring Back The Season Ticket Installment Program

Great news is that SFC have brought back an installment program allowing season ticket buyers to pay in chunks over around 6 months as opposed to having to shell out a few hundred quid in one hit. I am sure this plan will go down well.No half season tickets again, but this is a great improvement on last year and I would hope this means we will see a lot closer to 18,000 ST sales this summer. ....
