Despite reports this morning indicating Kenny Miller is set to resist the lure of the Premiership with Birmingham City and stay with Rangers, the club will no doubt be identifying potential replacements should another offer come which suits both player and club.

The rumoured £700,000 fee required for Miller's services will surely interest other clubs despite being available on a free in the summer and it would not surprise many Gers fans if he were to depart in this current window.

Surmising Walter Smith was allowed the funds to strengthen the squad, Dundee Utd striker David Goodwillie is sure to be on Smith's wanted list as he is a long term admirer of the Dundee United striker, who despite having some off the park misfortunes, has the ego to become a successful Rangers striker.

Goodwillie has struck 11 times so far this season and has both strength and pace to burn with his manager Peter Houston admitting this week he'd be willing to sell the hitman and encouraging bids of around £1 million.

Another player linked is American striker Edson Buddle who would seem a likely candidate given he's available on a free transfer after his contract at LA Galaxy expired.

Buddle has been linked with Stoke City and ambitious Sheffield Wednesday having already spent a trial period, ironically, with Birmingham City.

It's widely known the MLS star has already visited Murray Park and is keen on a move to Europe, but the player who represented his country at last years World Cup Finals,  may prefer a move to the Premiership rather than the SPL.
