Yes, ‘uninspiring’ will be Jackett’s epitaph. 🙁

Or his epitath could be

'he came, he got us promoted, gave us the best win record of an manager in history, but was still not liked by anyone because he boring and he folded his arms'

We bossed half an hour, got ahead, then as usual pretty much gave up playing. We lack the drive to win games when we are in control and totally lack creativity. It's a hard watch but I still think the winners of this tie will win the play offs... I'm not sure why I think that though... [rle]

We know you love him Deep, you are easily entertained that’s for sure.

He serves up football that is turgid, lacking in passion and on the point of being ultimately unsuccessful. The win record will mean feck all if it gets us nowhere.

I hope he gets us promoted and then sods off into the sunset with his win record and promotion to look back on.

He will go with my thanks but I don’t think I can stand any more seasons watching the dross he serves up.

I don't love him. I'll be quite happy when he's gone.

But I think he should get credit where it is due instead of blind hatred. And you can't argue with his record if he takes us up.

I think it’s frustration that boils over. He doesn’t deserve abuse but he’s too stuck in his ways to change.

I don't care what his record is if he fails to take us up on three attempts, fails two playoffs without winning a game, and plays a brand of football that is not inspiring or entertaining.

It's a bit like saying Sam Allardyce has a great record of keeping teams from getting relegated. Fair enough, but every time the supporters want rid by the end of the season because of the style of football they have to endure. He plays that style to avoid relegation, but KJ plays a similar style to get promotion.

I understand the criticism of his style, but he has three promotions from the third tier to the second tier on his CV so he knows what works in this league. I don't find his teams quite as boring as those who hate his guts do, but for me the big criticism is he is not flexible enough with his tactics, and worries too much about the opposition rather than letting them worry about us, which to be fair is a criticism I would aim at the majority of managers these days - they have too much data and think they have to do something with all of it.

But I also think a lot of the criticism he gets is more of a criticism of the quality of football from league one teams (and players) than anything he is personally responsible for.

I was always sure he would leave if he didn't get us up this year - Covid might change that though.

Hmmm, Deep. Charlton & Luton last season played their way out of L1. Wigan did it along with Blackburn 2 yrs ago. It can & has been done. So sod all to being a L1 team & just his style.

No Deep, the criticism of your idol is down to him always playing negative football, poor team selections, having no passion etc. It's no surprise you don't find his style as boring as the majority do, you're often looking to defend him with this win % you love so much but where's it got us?

"he has three promotions from the third tier to the second tier on his CV so he knows what works in this league"

I would counter that with he used to know what works in this league. It hasn't worked for us so far has it?

MQPT ... I'd probably agree with that, but you can't blame him for sticking with what he knows works, or be surprised that that is what he would try to do. That was why he was appointed. I think last year's team was considerably better than this years and a bit unlucky not to make it, but a lack of depth in the sqaud and 60+ games did for them.

If we go up then he will be proved right, if we don't then he will be gone. I won't be sorry when he goes, but he does not deserve hounding out.

It's all down to Monday innit. If he gets it right he has another chance at Wembley. If he blows it, it should be on his bike but I wouldnt put money on him leaving even if he fails again. For me I can't wait to see the back of him. The sight of Bolton fannying around with a throw in during extra time, when we were drawing a game we badly needed to win summed his tenure up.

The failure last year had nothing to do with bad luck and everything to do with the manager. He doesn't go on the attack at their place when they go down to 10 then keeps our best attacker on the bench for over an hour in a game we needed to win at home. Bad management not bad luck.

"you can't blame him for sticking with what he knows works"

It hasn't worked and yes I can blame him for being a dinosaur and not adapting as the game and times change. He's had more than a fair go at it here and had the support of management, the owners and the fans. I refuse to feel sorry for someone who hasn't produced entertaining or inspiring football and can't recognise or address his own faults as a manager. As controversial as this may sound I think we win in spite of him not because of him.

Whoever thought passing up the chance to sign Pearce in favour of Raggett & Downing deserves a public flogging.

Whoever thought playing 5 at the back at home against 9 men is a good idea, needs to think about if they still have the bottle for football management.

Any win, lose or draw ratio has to be quoted within context.

Jackettball belongs in the relegation zone. It's antifootball. It's survivalball.

Yes it's effective at its goal - which is to stay up on the cheap.

On the flip side we remember Adams and Avram for reasons other than their records.

Quick questions

Which teams in this league have played the style of football you believe is possible week in week out?

Who was the last manager we had in these lower leagues who played the style of football you were happy with?

Pedalo ... Pearce was never available. He had used our interest to get a new contract "I wanted to get stability with the club, I enjoy it here. I love the club and it has been a good year. The club had a bit of interest for me in the summer but it didn't change anything, I wanted to stay here."

SOPompey, other clubs manage to football their way out of L1. I mentioned Wigan, Blackburn, Charlton, Luton & also this season Coventry & Rotherham have managed it. In fact it looks like the best footballing teams prevail. The idea that because its L1 you have to hoof it & play uninspiring stuff is bollox.
