Last year midfield, this year central defence?

We suffered last year because of no decent midfielders signed in January.
This year we’re desperate for a left sided centre half but it sounds like KJ’s satisfied now Jack’s back.
One injury or suspension and Downing’s on the bench.
The other 3 have to share duties for league, rearranged games and both cups.
And one of them is Raggett, although he is slowly improving.

KJ said last night there were to be no more transfers in January - in or out.
So he must prefer Downing to any other available centre half.
Let‘s hope he’s right.

I can see why ... 4 centre backs and with Naylor, Hawkins and McRorie as possible back-up makes it less of a priority than it was before Jack got back to fitness.

Hopefully Burgess & Whatmough can stay fit and form the first choice partnership, and for all his faults there is no disputing that the defence actually do very well with Raggett in the team, and in particular Burgess plays well him. And if he can get Downing back to anything like he was at his previous clubs then we have enough centre backs. Certainly none of the ones available that we have been linked with look any better than what we have got.

Less of a priority!!! don't be a farkin din, it's our major priority . The only difference from last month is that Jack is back, but for how long. Raggett is slowly improving but still gash. The other 3 are square pegs in round holes again (only short term solutions). If we move Naylor back there the midfield suffers. McCrorie has rarely played there and Hawkins tries his best but is endlessly caught out of position and as for Downing,he's as much use as a dose of coronavirus (topical me [:P] ).

A CB (preferable left sided) is still his major priority IMO.

Only if you think Jack is going to get injured again, and only if you think the team could concede less with someone else other than Raggett. For me I think Raggett is a poor player but you can't argue with his record and it is a team game not an individuals game. The team does OK with Raggett so I'm happy with him as backup for Jack.

And Naylor is hardly a square peg in a round hole - he has played more at centre back than midfield in his career, but I agree he is too important in our midfield to move except in an emergency. And in a real emergency there are other options.

If I could sign a Jason Pearce then I would, but if the best available is the Tranmere bloke then I'm not sure it is worth the money to sit a new player on the bench.

It was rightly the priority at the start of January, but it has to be less of a priority now Jack is fit.

It can't be less of a priority just because JW is back, we can't afford to take a risk. Jackett has to get a loanee in as cover. Raggett is awful probably the worst CB since Tiler. It's no use saying its a team game and others cover for him,he's carp.

In an ideal world it would (and hopefully is) Jack and Burgess but can we really afford ( we being the Eisners and jackass)to gamble promotion on the fitness of a player coming back from his 3rd serious injury and remaining injury free???

I'm fed up with make and do players in positions that aren't their speciality ( don't give me the modern jack of all trades player hype - it's bollix) from this management team. We need good players in all positions and on the bench and other than JW and CB we don't have good centre half coverage.

If we throw away promotion because of this it's criminal.

Jackett out!!!![xx(]

"Raggett is awful probably the worst CB since Tiler."
Oh...I would put Ben Chorley right up there with Tiler in the crap league table [:D]

But yeah.. would like a left sided center half.
Theres an awful lot of matches coming up, partly because havent been completely crap in cup
Jacks great but nervous about his fragilty
The rest?
I like Burgess but he's gone from being thrid choice last year to first choice and he's the same player
Raggedly is one slip up from crucifixion by the support, Downing probbaly needs therapy to get his groove back and Ollie..well he tries but aint natural.
And as for moving Naylor.. nope.. aint happening if want the play-offs

Cowes..nope..

"The Pompey boss told BBC Solent’s Andew Moon on Thursday afternoon that it has been “quiet on the transfer front.”
Moon also stated that Jackett said he would be “surprised” if there is any more activity this month, which also applies to potential departures."
