The News

I see The News has redesigned the Pompey page and made it even more unreadable, now it doesn't show even the first sentence of the story headline. Whoever is in charge clearly has no idea how to use social media. The "comment" section of each page seems to have been taken off too, mind you few people have been commenting in last 6 months probably because of the need to sign-up to Facebook to comment. Yet the comments bit was often the only part worth reading!

I noticed this morning the style of the News' mobile website had changed. The blue coloured blockiness seems to have been replaced by... not much really, but as I'm using an adblocker its hard to know if the site is any more legible or if the intrusively overpowering ad themes are still there.

There's still f- all worth reading on it.

to be honest..i don't even bother half the time as they are rehashed stories saying the same thing in another way. Plus it never seems to know if its my first or last visit of the week, and by the time i have signed in it says i have reached my limit..tosh!

I left Fareham at age 18. I spent decades subscribing to The News and then followed it online. I haven't bothered with it for about a year as it's so bad.

The News

WEBSITE: Clearly designed to put as many obstacles between the customer and its content as possible. Made not just to be difficult but to really p*ss people off.
REPORTERS: I would recommend Neil Allen, as the only talent, to jump ship ASAP. They others are so far removed from Portsmouth it doesn't make you feel they have any real understanding of Pompey at all and as for their cringey talk-in, you need subtitles.
For me The News lost all credibility when they failed miserably to step up to the mark when the fans needed them to. It is difficult to believe if you come from Portsmouth but some areas have proper campaigning journalism that does the right thing and gets to the bottom of malpractice. In our darkest hour under Chainrai we had a lone voice, Micah Hall, who risked everything to expose the truth while the 'professionals' at The News went hiding.
It has become a corporate shell with no personality, no connection with its readers and no heart.

The match day live reporting is dreadful, you have to refresh the page yourself to get the latest action
and there's usually several minutes of absolutely nothing, shocking service and a waste of time.

The News blew it in 2015 when in addition to worshiping Ben xxxxxxxx Ainslie, they embarrassingly fell hook, line, and sinker for the 'Slide The City' scam. The excruciating, patronising sycophancy which passes for 'journalism' there alienates the few exhausted visitors who make through the paywall and registration hurdles. I'm just astonished the zombie continues to stagger on.

ForeverBlue, remember the good old days when Jordan Cross, (and sorry but I can't remember the other blokes name), used to do it. Brilliant updates that used to describe virtually every kick of the game, and at times it almost felt you were at the game. We used to get shed loads of comments as well. Now it's just a case of sit back and type one or two lines of text every 7 mins or so.

JPI Media, formerly Johnstone Press, have systematically ruined the online versions of the local newspapers they own. Virus ridden ads, hopeless subscription model.

I'm amazed that the thing is still going.

The name you were searching for was Steve Wilson, sp. The late great Mike Neasom was a long time before that. Used to go up with him on away games sometimes in his tinny Vauxhall Corsa that stank of Hamlets.
