We have a left footer in Seddon who had a very good debut on Saturday at left back and already KJ is talking about playing him in midfield. Please KJ square pegs in square holes.

Yeah how about bringing in an established quality midfielder we desperately need ?

Where has this obsession with players only being allowed to play in one position come from ? Any player that can't play in more than one should not be a professional IMO. Keepers, and maybe some centre-backs apart, I would say we have not got any thankfully.

You're right Deep, we should shove Naylor up top.

Deep, most players have a favourite position and play best in that position. Obviously good footballers CAN play in other positions and sometimes a manager can improve a player by moving him to another position.

The issue here is that Jackett seems to want to play lots of players out if position and that never ends well.

Surely you can see that.

Cant believe you posted that Deep. Utility players like Tait or even Walkes apart you wouldn't want to field a team with too many players playing out of their natural position.
In a emergency-yes but as we've already seen this season playing players out of position just doesn't work.
Crazy stuff.

Jimi Hendrix might have been able to play the drums but If you’re going to start a band get him on the guitar FFS.

In this case I think Jackett's talking about more when Lee Brown & Haunstrupp are both back fit.

Possibly, but a more logical idea would be to use a combination of the three actual CM's we have (Walkes, Naylor, Cannon). Unless Kenny wants to play him on the wing for whatever reason.

He's not talking about playing him in centre midfield though is he ??

Left wing. Where Ronan Curtis, Ryan Williams and Gareth Evans all play as well.

All of this is irrelevant it's still a stupid thing to even consider unless there are exceptional circumstances.

Deep, I know you don't like our fantastic manager being criticized but how often has playing players out of their favoured positions worked for us?

Gaffer, "Obviously good footballers CAN play in other positions and sometimes a manager can improve a player by moving him to another position." And that it what I was saying.

But the point is that playing Pitman as a 9 when he is better as a 10, or Hawkins as a CB when he can also play CF, or Walkes as a CM when he can also play RB, or Naylor as CB when he is more use to the team as CM, or Evans anywhere when he can also play anywhere else, or Williams LW when he can also play RW, or Harness anywhere across the three when he also plays RW, Haunstrup as LM when he also LB etc etc is not playing those players 'out of position'. They are all comfortable in multiple positions and in many of those cases there would be quite a debate about which is their 'best' position.

Nothing would be more limiting for a manager than having players that can only play in one position, and I would say our squad is particularly flexible and that is a good thing not a bad one.

The only one Jackett has tried this season that I thought was daft was Burgess at RB, but he didn't do that badly there. Haunstrup at RB worked brilliantly, and Walkes at LB was an emergency that did OK too. The jury is out on Marquis as a 10, but he didn't play any worse (or better) there than he had at 9, and Harrison is a better 9 in the way we play.

When we signed John Marquis if Jackett had come out and said "yeah I'm thinking of playing him in midfield" you be able to here the collective "WTF" on the moon. Then again he went and did it anyway so at this point I'm not sure what's up and down anymore.

Portsea, I've no problem with people criticising Jackett. We all do that at times. I just don't see that saying a player like Seddon could also do a job in another position as a justifiable cause of criticism, especially when it is a position he played in last season for Wimbledon.

The thing is we don't want him to do a job, we want more than that, we want players to play in their primary positions not those they could be good at. It's that type of thinking from Jackett that's got us playing this awful style of football. Marquis at 10 FFS, he was scoring for fun before he joined us and KJ got his mitts on him.

Nothing surprises anymore does it. Just worn down by it all. Football really is the bit that breaks up the Satdee pub visit these days
