Just what we needed & another 3 goals scored. Just need to keep it up now with still 1 game in hand.

First entertaining game this season and excellent result and decent performance. Harrison outstanding. Curtis good. Burge solid. Shocker from Haunstrupp also Marquis. What a miss! Good to see we have found a way to overcome our lack of midfield by playing over it and taking it out of the game.

I didn't think Haunstrupp was shocking.

I thought Marquis lacked confidence but he chased and that will see him win support. At least he got a goal, although that glaring miss will not have done his confidence any good.

With Haunstrup it looks like square pegs in round holes. He's very one-footed and playing on the right it shows. He got done a few times last night. Jackett seems to like playing people out of position but it rarely works (Hawkins may be an exception).

Hawkins is not playing out of position ... he has always been used as both centre half and centre forward wherever he has played. He may have played considerably more at centre forward but to say a player cannot have two positions without 'playing out of position' in one of them is absurd. The way he is going you'll probably say he is playing out of position if he plays up front in a few months time.

As for Haunstrup no-one bats an eyelid when a right footed player plays at left back, so that should work both ways. He did get caught wrong footed once last night, and it probably wasn't his best game there, but in the previous two games I would say he put in the best perfromances we have seen so far in the right back position. He is a genuine contender for the role full time, and is a good enough player now for a run in the team. It's very lazy criticism to say Jackett is wrong to play players in new positions - especially when we have won all the games in which he has played Haunstrup there.

Yes Ghost, of course you're right. Haunstrup (a player I like by the way) only got caught out once and Hawkins is a centre back. He probably played there about twice with his previous clubs so we'll count that. King Kenny has played Walkes in three different roles, McCrorie in two, Burgess at right back, Pitman all over the place, Evans in several positions, Marquis in several. The list goes on. Versatility is a great thing but playing all your players in several different positions they're not used to is not. Things are starting to come right but God, it's taken a long time, especially with the squad we've got.

But Walkes & McRorie were both signed precisely because they are versatile and can play def mid as well as right back so playing them in either is not playing them put of position. Pitman has been asked to play as a centre forward up front, but that is not a big change from his natural no 10 role, and is something he has done before. Evans is just Mr. Versatility...not sure how you could ever play him out of position !

IMO the greater sin would be to not pick a squad with versatile players, or even worse not to take advantage of their versatility.

And that squad isnít good enough, especially at centre back and central midfield. If weíre to build on this momentum Jackett has to strengthen these areas considerably in January

Assuming Jack Whatmough comes back as planned we do not need any more centre-backs. Choosing the best pairing from Whatmough, Burgess, Hawkins, Downing & Raggett will be hard enough as it is. And we have Naylor as back-up there too Can't see why we would want any more, especially as we already have amongst the best goals against columns in the division, particularly so since the dodgy start.

A box to box midfielder I would agree with, but they are few and far between and its unlikely that we would find any better in a January window than we did last January, so maybe the solution is already at the club with Cannon or Morris.

Deep, I think we do need another CH. Jack is head n shoulders above this level but the worry is his knees. Knowing our luck he'd get injured the 1st game after the window slams shut. Raggett & Downing-are they of the required standard. Oli has got the nod over Downing straightaway, Raggett has done ok but is a more traditional big lump. I wouldn't be surprised to see the club try & move Downing on if not in Jan then next summer.
Cannon or Morris-who knows-certainly not us. For a variety of reasons we've hardly seen them & the noises from the club is we are after quality in Jan. Not sure either Cannon or Morris can be called quality.
Its a interesting conundrum but a RB, box to box midfielder & a CH would be my bet.

Sorry Ghost disagree you can forget about rag,tag and bobtail ie Raggatt,Downing and Bolton they have been given their chances and found wanting, they are just not good enough. Realistically we have Burgess and Hawkins at CB Jack may be fit enough but there is no guarantee. So we need a ball playing CB if we can get one Naylor can play there but needed in midfield with hopefully a new box to box midfielder. Cannon is not up to it and no guarantee Morris will come back fit so Jacket should finally nail a creative player to link defence with attack and work alongside Naylor. This is the missing link which will make the whole team tick if we can a Ben Thompson clone?

I still think Downing could come good ... he has been far better for previous clubs than we have seen so far but he will have to wait for Burgess to get suspended or injured as he is clearly seen as not a suitable partner for him. Raggett is no great shakes but it must be said he and Burgess as a partnership did not concede many. Bolton is a mystery ... limited but OK backup IMO, though I expected better when we signed him. And we should know by the end of January how fit Whatmough looks.

And I agree we need a Thompson type box to box midfielder, as I said, I just think the chances of finding one in a January window are very small - as we discovered last January when we tried to replace Thompson.

January isnít the best time to look for and buy players but he had all fvckin summer to sort his defence and midfield out. Come January itíll be 12 months since he found a replacement for Thompson.

Jacket has confirmed in the News none of our players are going to go out on loan he wants to keep the team together so Rag,Tag and Bobtail will be used as backups. I believe Jacket does recognise the midfielder he needs because we were very close to getting Sean Longstaff and Ryan Yates both of these would have been just the acquisition we are looking for. He compromised by bringing in Cannon and Morris which was a bad call in hindsight!
