Turkey and the Kurds

Turkey has always had a problem with the Kurds because they want to create a Kurdish state, part of which would be in Turkey.

Now Trump has withdrawn US troops the Turks feel emboldened to attack the Kurds.

What is going to happen to all the ISIS fighters that are being guarded by the Kurds? If they get out it’ll be bad news.

I can see the argument that it’s not the job of the Yanks to police the world but they should have made some provision for the Kurds who are their allies.

It’s a mess and there is no easy solution, sadly.

Poor form imho to leave the Kurds at the mercy of the hard line Islamist Erdogan. Think I read somewhere the Kurds has 10k ISIS nutters under their 'protection' . Then again old Merkel probably has double that.

Well it's just got worse, the land attack has started watch out now for syrian forces (backed by russia) moving in from the south.

This will become ethnic cleansing unless Nato get hard line and fast,

p,s, I believe there are 60k isis fighters and dependants held by the Kurds.

Total betrayal of the most effective fighting force against Daiesh
XXXXXXing disgusting.
And this isnt a group of dodgy radicals who are uneasy allies of teh US, but a secular, sane movement in comaprison with many US allies.
A lot of groups ould think twice about trusting Trump or the states.

Could see it coming though
The Peshmerga were abaondoned in Iraq as a reward for stopping the scumbagas and drving them back in some areas before the support from the west arrived.

Now its the turn of the YPG and YPJ to be twàtted on by the twàt.
The YPJ, the womens fighting units, who knew they faced certain death via hours of torture if captured, suchas having their tits cut off and sewn to there mouths (a Daiesh favorite that)

Have a forlorn hope that Turkey gets humilated and it brings down Erdoğan.

YPG dimeşe, erd û ezman diheje [^]

Yep, Trump has buggered up this decision. He’s doing it to appeal to his domestic support that isn’t in favour of foreign wars.

You can’t just desert an ally at the drop of a hat though, if you do that you lose allies rapidly.

Poor decision and he will come to regret it.

In the long term the only real solution is a Kurdish homeland recognised by the Turks, Syrians and Iraqis. Fat chance of that happening, sadly.

Turkey is shooting itself in the foot here, it is pretty much ensuring decades of conflict with the Kurds.

Trump is a complete bell end.

But his supporters follow him with an almost religious zeal, he’s a god to them and can do no wrong.

Any negative stories are fake news, or the biased MSM, or just further evidence that he needs to “drain the swamp”.

And so he’ll likely get re-elected in 2020. What an embarrassment for the US.

Trump may be a bell end Tricky but have you watched any of the US mainstream media? Almost all of it IS fake news. Have a look ffs.

Ours is almost as bad and the stuff they don’t report tells you more about them than the stuff they do.

The election of Trump is a direct result of the MSM taking the public for fools for so long.

Boris will be elected purely because he will honour the referendum. Shocking that a UK politician would actually do what he has promised ffs.

You disappoint me Tricky, I thought you of all people on here would actually look at the facts and not be swayed by a dislike of a personality.

That is reasonable with regard to scummers but unreasonable in all other cases.

Gaffer, the world’s gone mad, it’s confirmation bias on steroids, if a news story fits with your prior beliefs it’s true, if it doesn’t, it’s fake news.

The thrust of Ricky’s point was that Trump is a childish narcissist, and no matter what anyone says about him, if it’s negative, it’s fake news.

Maybe trump has played Turkey

My theory is, Brexit looks like it could go to general election or second ref.
American the main benefactors out of Brexit.
Trump pulls troops away from Syria/turkey boarder knowing turkey will invade.
Turkish pm issues a threat to eu that it will open the gates to refugees if it intervenes in it’s affairs.
This confirms peoples fear of open boarders, immigration.
Trump makes a speech about they didn’t help us at Normandy, which seems a strange statement, theirs been a lot of references to the Second World War recently British people sub consciously remember who there friends where.the eu is is under Germany control for sure.
British vote leave again in second ref or conservatives in ge which mean leave.

While the wailing carries on lets just add a few facts to the argument.

Only about 50 US troops have been withdrawn. I can see trumps conundrum here, if the turks had killed one US soldier then The states would be in uproar and trump could be forced to declare war on turkey. Not a position any President would enjoy.##he may have pulled a political master stroke as sooner or later the turks would go into syria anyway.

you should also remember trump has done something few politicians manage. He is delivering on his election promises. The US economy is booming. Unemployment at lowest ever level, black employment at highest rate ever. The wall is being built. He is trying to get out of "stupid foreign wars".

I'm not a fan of trump but prefer a bit of balance in debate.

“They didn’t help us in Normandy”

I know Trump isnt too worried about fact cheaking but wanted to fact check myself from several academic pieces before posting.
Just a few things

Normandy -OK ..neither Kirds or Turks there as a country
But:
Kurds
1.Kurdish forces in Iraq fought alongside Bitish (well 'Empire') forces, Iraq Levies against pro-nazi Iraqis.
Some fought in Italy and Greec as part of teh force. Some were Paratroopers.
Turkey
1.Neutral during the war. Haha Refused overtones to help in 1940/41 and their refusal to help could have been terminal to Britains oil supply whe standing alone against the Nazis and forced a dewal with hitler -which would have meant no normandy.

“Turkey began World War II bound to Britain and France by the military alliance of October 1939, moved to non-belligerency in June 1940 after the fall of France, and adopted a policy of ‘active neutrality’ in the spring of 1941 after German occupation of the Balkans and the conclusion of a German-Turkish Treaty of Friendship in June 1941"

2. chromium ore
Turkey sold massive amounts of chromium ore tp the Nazis for weapon production, in fact most of the supply. The Nazi war machine would have been in svere trouble without it by 1941
3.Looted gold
The stuff the swiss wqouldnt touch..the loted treasure of the holcaust anmd the nazi occupation, all went to Turkey.
The looted Gold wasnt returned after teh war

At war’s end, Turkey had done exactly nothing to assist the Allies besides no longer selling chromium to the Nazis. Turkey nonetheless argued that since it had been at war with Germany, it should not be expected to turn over whatever Nazi wealth it retained.

Todat it is very wrong to just refer to Kurds. Many are peaceful people integrated into Turkish society wanting an autonomous region but not independance. There is another group who are criminals with connections to mafias across europe involved in drugs, human trafficking, extortion, murders you name it. They are the problem differentiating between the Kurd fighters and the criminals/terrorists is no easy task.
