Shots On Target

Despite being outplayed yesterday we had 5 shots on target and Donny had 6.

That was far more entertaining than most of the cagey tiki-taki possession rubbish served up in the so called Premier League! The only games this weekend in the Premier with more shots on target than ours were Liverpool vs Leicester and Norwich vs Villa and the only Premier League teams with more shots on target than Pompey were Liverpool, Villa, Brighton and Chelsea.

OK, modern players are fitter than ever before, but in terms of sheer excitement - goalmouth scrambles, shots on target etc - the end product is usually dire!

Most games are a bit of a let-down with the occasional hum dinger! Apart form the Bobby Campbell era, half a season under Frank Burrows and the Judas promotion season I don't recall many spells where us fans have been thoroughly entertained week after week.

So, all in all, the entertainment on offer this season so far is merely par for the course of being a Pompey fan. Even Bally's promotion season was a bit of grind with very few exhilarating performances!

Which just goes to prove the saying ‘lies, damn lies and statistics’.

We were totally outplayed by Donny and were extremely fortunate to win.

Let’s have some pragmatism ffs.

Ex-gaffer what you say is true. I also have to reject what was said with specific reference to the Wycombe game whene my next door neighbour who wors nightshifts came over to get an undisturbed night's kip during 80 minutes of that game.

Didn't see the game yesterday because after Wycombe not coughing up for an iPlayer video ticket but it looked a bit more entertaining and we won.

Lord be praised

Most of Donny's shots were from way out. You would argue that our defensive display forced them into this strategy.

As I understand, before yesterday - we had the best possession season stats in the league. Therefore - you have to assume that changing the system has affected our share of possession.

I personally would like to see more of the 3-5-2 formation - which means you can be more flexible with the middle personnel - and find a better position for Close or Cannon. We did try it out for half a game this season - I think it was the 2nd half of the Burton game.
