Better today although the midfield was overrun. Burgess had an excellent game and Raggett wasn't bad either although he looks a bit ponderous at times. Fair dues to Close, he made the first goal with his quick thinking. We actually looked better without Marquis so maybe he'll have to settle for a place on the bench for a while. PUP

As long as Close plays it will always be over run, I'm not a Close hater, however the lad can't tackle and about 1 in every 10 passes comes of.

Itís not just Close,itís Close and Naylor as a pair, they donít work as a partnership together.

We were over run again by the sound of it Donnie fans cant believe how they lost, we were lucky today but for heavens sake we need to get our midfield sorted out. Hopefully we have gained some confidence with the win but Jacket has got to sort out this problem area, same issue as last season. When will he ever learn didn't Ben Thompson show what we should be doing?

Close and Naylor worked ok as a partnership in the second half of last season's promotion push so why not this season.

Did they really work or is that based on results?

After Thompson left we didn't win the next 8 league games, then we beat Scunthorpe, Walsall, Shrewsbury, Bradford, Wycombe, Rochdale, Burton and Coventry. Burton and Coventry aside the rest were in the bottom 8, and 3 of those ended up going down! Against the better sides we lost to Charlton and Peterborough and drew with Sunderland and Accrington.

As far as results going our way, I think Lowe and Pitman coming back in the side helped massively. And credit where its due, Close chipped in with some great shots at the end. But you have to look at who we played to decide if the partnership could really hold its own.

At no point have I ever watched the Close / Naylor partnership control and dominate a midfield. I would say if you are going to have flair players out wide and an attacker in the number 10 role, then both of your midfielders in the centre need to have energy and be able to win the ball.

I thought we were weak in the middle of the park the second half of last season, which cost us promotion, and i'm afraid my view hasn't changed this season.

No they didn't, the partnership that got us nearly promoted had Ben Thompson in it. It all went to sh!t in midfield when he went back to Millwall.

Which is why we need Andy Cannon on the pitch. Is he injured?

It appears Cannon was fully fit but KJ decided to leave him out of the squad for some unknown reason.

I heard that Jacket overheard Cannon calling him Hamsterface in training.

If the lad thinks the boss is more hamstery than beavery, he has no right to play.
